Water filtration is a process that removes impurities such as small particles of dust from drinking water. Many people choose to use water filtration systems on tap water to ensure that the water is completely clean prior to drinking.
How is water filtered?
Water is filtered by passing it through small gauze which traps the dirt particles, leaving safe drinking water behind. Although the tap water in the UK is safe to drink, many people still choose to filter their water before drinking. This may be because they are concerned about the chemicals or particles which may be present or because they find the test of filtered water preferable. Whatever the reason, filtering your water ensures that what you drink is safe and delicious.
What is a home filtration system?
A home filtration system is any device or system of devices responsible for filtering and purifying water prior to drinking.
People are often torn as to whether they should invest in a home filtration system for their tap water or not. While it is not strictly necessary, many people prefer the taste of filtered water and feel that having filtered water gives them complete peace of mind that they are not consuming any harmful chemicals at all.
There are two types of home filtration systems that you could use for your water if you feel like you would like to have it filtered. The first of these is the most common – the jug filter. This is the easiest type of home water filtration system as you simply pour the water into the jug and allow it to pass through the filter inside. Then, when you want a drink of water, instead of going to the tap, you simply pour the water from the jug.
Many people opt for this as a cheap solution to avoiding some of the health risks associated with tap water as both the jugs and filters can be easily replaced. However, the capacity for water storage can often be quite small and filters may need regular replacements on a monthly basis.
Whole house water filtration system
The second option is a whole house water filtration system. This, as the name suggests, means that all the water in your house is filtered, rather than just your drinking water. Some people prefer this as it means you avoid drinking the chemicals in water whilst getting the convenience of purified water literally on tap.
Whilst this option may be more expensive than a jug filter initially, filters will not need replacing anywhere near as regularly and that means it could prove more economically viable in the long run. Limited capacity for water storage will not be a problem either as all water will be purified prior to use. This could make home water filtration systems your best option as it ensures that all water in your house remains clean and safe at all times.
